Water Filtration Systems

Water Filtration System

Water is essential to life; it has many functions, including carrying nutrients, regulating the body temperature & providing an environment for chemical reactions. Water also helps keep our skin healthy by acting as a natural moisturizer that locks in moisture. However, did you know that normal tap water might harm you & that is why you must filter your water through water filtration systems?

There are many ways to do this, and we’ll explore a few here. We’ll also go over some pitfalls and tricks to make it easier for you!

There are a variety of water filtration systems that can be used to clean your water.

  • Reverse osmosis – One of the most popular methods, which uses a semipermeable membrane to remove particles & dissolved solids from the water. This system is effective in removing toxins, chemicals, & other pollutants.
  • Distillation – Another standard method, which involves boiling the water and collecting the condensed vapor. This method is effective in removing bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants.
  • Carbon filtration – This uses activated charcoal to remove impurities from the water. This system effectively removes chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals.
  • Ultraviolet light – You can also use this to disinfect water. This method is effective in removing bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms.

There are some pitfalls & tricks you should be aware of when using these filters.

  • Water distillation systems prevent some pollutants from reaching the water but not all of them; some mineral contaminants will make it through while others like sodium chloride, arsenic, mercury, or selenium will be filtered out. Water distillation systems are also slow, taking about 4-6 hours to produce 1 gallon of water.
  • Another pitfall is carbon filtration; while this method removes some chemical pollutants from the water, it doesn’t remove pathogens or other contaminants. Also, this system does not remove organic compounds & it usually takes about 4-8 hours to produce 1 gallon of water.
  • Next are ultraviolet light systems; they do not remove particles and metals from the water; they only work on bacteria & other microorganisms. Therefore, water that has been treated with this method must be stored in an airtight container.
  • The distilled water should be kept refrigerated after it is filtered. If it is not refrigerated, the water will taste flat. In addition, water treated with ultraviolet light systems should be stored in a dark glass (such as brown or green) container to avoid degradation of the light’s effectiveness.
  • Finally, carbon filtration systems are slow and cumbersome; they also require extensive maintenance & come with an increased risk of bacterial growth.

Water filtration systems are beneficial for your health, mainly because of their ability to clean water. Water filtration systems effectively remove pollutants from water but, you must remember the pitfalls & tricks to make it easier.
